Manufacturing Engineer - Laboratory Specialist

This position is for a laboratory specialist within the Rolls Royce Crosspointe Disc Manufacturing Engineering team. This is a very exciting opportunity that will give the right candidate a wealth experience across a wide range of manufacturing engineering activities within a globally renowned company.

The role will cover a number of special processes including chemical etching, paint, cleaning, and peening and the individual within the role will have technical responsibility for these processes and will provide the technical guidance and support as required. They will be required to ensure suitable process controls are established so that the processes are stable and centred within spec limits. They will also be responsible for ensuring all processes are NADCAP/NUCAP approved and for maintaining this approval through annual NADCAP/NUCAP audits.

Crosspointe Disc is a new Rolls Royce disc facility that is currently in the final phase of construction in Prince George VA. Manufacture of parts will commence in Q1 2011 in the 1st of 3 dedicated cells that will be established over the next two years. Over the next 3 years the facility will take manufacturing responsibility for 6 key Rolls Royce volume disc components that will be transferred from the UK. The Crosspointe Manufacturing Engineering team have a critical role to play in the success of this project and will be involved in a broad range of tasks including the acquisition and commissioning of equipment, the transfer and validation of the method of manufacture for parts currently manufactured in the UK and establishing and maintaining rate manufacture of all products within the facility whilst delivering continuous quality improvement and cost reduction.


Required:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Materials Science is required
• Experience of providing technical laboratory support to aerospace manufacturing operations
• Experience in supporting NADCAP/NUCAP audits for special processes
• Experience in micro-structural examination specific to Titanium and Nickel alloys
• Methodical, logical approach to problem solving and good attention to detail
• Ability to communicate effectively upwards and downwards within the organization and to train others.
• Good team play with collaborative attitude and a flexible approach and a strong drive for results.
• Desire to learn new skills and widen knowledge base

Preferred:
• Experience of chemical etching, painting, cleaning, washing or peening operations
• Experience in FPI NDT
• Experience in micro structural assessment of metal samples and of assessment and processing of non conformance related to any of the above process
• Six Sigma Green or Black Belt accreditation.
• Knowledge and understanding of the use process control and problem investigation tools (PFMEAs, control plans, RCA, 7 step, 5 whys e.t.c)
• Understanding of SPC and the role co-ordinate metrology has within SPC
